Baby Sea Turtles

My youngest daughter, has loved all sea creatures for the longest time! One Christmas, she asked for a stuffed turtle - Fast forward to September (her birthday month) of the following year I believe it was 2023 I scrolled through my social media looking for an interesting place to celebrate!

One of my friend’s stories, showed him holding & releasing baby sea turtle!!! I could not contain my excitement! I DMed him and after a quick google search, I realized that we were coming towards the end of sea turtle season! I just knew I had to see them!

We packed the very moment I got a hold of the location & contact number and we started our very spontaneous road trip to Kemaman beach in Terengganu, Malaysia! It was not very glamourous, I mean we drove for five hours and slept in a car, but I knew it had to be worth it!

We settled down in our beachside villa and ordered room service for dinner! We drove 20mins down to the beach and after a short briefing we got our share of baby sea turtles!!!

They were only 4 days old and I could not believe how cute they were!!! My baby was definitely on to something!!! We learned to hold them on the side of their shell, taking care not to touch their very sensitive belly buttons!

We took selfies with them, and was really just in awe! I never imagined how I would feel and I was so grateful for my daughter who opened my eyes to such wonder and beauty!

At 7pm, the sun was just beginning to set and we had to say our goodbyes! We were told not to shine bright lights (camera flashes) because it would disorient them. Then, the release... words could not describe how it felt! One by one, we saw them make their way to the South China Sea!

I felt super blessed for the experience, it was such a wonderful and meaningful way to celebrate a little girl’s birthday! I would really like to spread awareness for these beautiful creatures!

When we got back home, I had my inspiration for my next unit study and got to work right away! I even made stickers and Coloring Pages. Our Sea Turtles Nature Unit Study! is one of the most engaging and hands-on resources I’ve created. Here’s what you’ll dive into:

It’s science, geography, nature study, and art all rolled into one unforgettable learning experience. We had so much fun learning about all the different Sea Turtles of the World!

This S.T.E.A.M Project is also probably one of my favorites. Learning about biofluorescence and the Electromagnetic Spectrum!!!

So, I hope you have as much fun learning about them and I have & think twice before using another plastic straw. I know its not a lot, but its probably the least we can do!!!

Love,

Sarah
